A short definition...

Ayurveda is a naturopathic/holistic medicine from India which originated over 5000 years ago. It is the oldest recorded healing system from which most other eastern medicines derived from.

Ayurveda believes health is an ongoing process. It is based on the concept that we are all our own unique composition of elements and dynamics. To maintain our natural equilibrium we must take into account our individual constitution. Ayurveda breaks down these elements into three body types known as Vata, Pitta, and Kahpa. Everyone and everything is a combination of these three, but we each have our own combination. The goal of Ayurveda is to assist you in understanding where you are and maintaining that balance.

Ayurveda believes all illness is an excess of depletion of your natural constitution.

To return to a state of harmony one simply needs to find which area is in excess or is depleted and use the appropriate diet, life style changes, and actions to return you to your naturally sustained equilibrium.

Ayurveda uses herbs, diet, daily and seasonal routines, and various detoxification treatments to help you maintain a balanced state.
